Illustrator Jennifer Eichelberger

Today's Interview is from fabulous artist/illustrator Jennifer Eichelberger. She has a beautiful style with great detail and design.

Kim: Hi Jen its great to talk with you.
Jen: Hi Kim! How are you doing? So what's up?
Kim:Doing good! I am doing a blog for my students and was wondering if you wouldn't mind answering a few questions for me?
Jen: Love to, thank you!

Kim:What inspires you as an artist?
Jen: I find inspiration everywhere; nature, books, movies, other artists, history, my kids, my husband Mark is one of my greatest sources of inspiration. He's got a crazy, awesome imagination.

Kim: What makes a good teacher?
Jen: I feel that a good teacher holds their students accountable.

Kim: How did you become successful in your career?
Jen: The reason I have done so much illustration is because I've sent out postcards and keep in contact with art directors. Also, it's helped to have family that supports me and is excited when I have projects.  Also I have been very involved with SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators). That keeps me very motivated to stay involved with illustration.

Kim: What do you like to illustrate?
Jen: I love drawing people and animals. Also, when I'm pushing myself I like buildings and furniture, I also like fantasy art. I think I like it more than I actually do it.

Kim: What projects are you working on at the moment?
Jen: I have a personal project I've been working on for far too many years :) It's a mid grade novel. I'm taking a writing class and I'll be doing illustrations for it.  Also, I've decided that I am going to get an agent. I've implemented a plan to get one this summer.

Kim: Wow thank you Jen, this rocked.  Thank you.
Jen: Cool! I am so honored that you would ask me!

Jen lives in Pleasant Grove, Utah with her lovely family. She graduated from BYU in BFA illustration and has 8 years experience as a freelance illustrator from her studio. Some of Jen's work has been published and sold with Deseret and Walmart. Oh and her favorite ice cream flavor is Tillamook Mudslide :)
